We have a love-hate relationship with Airbnb.
On the love side:
- It’s the most well-known booking platform in the world
- Easy-to-use interface
- Most of our bookings come through it
On the hate side:
- Guests usually pay more for the exact same property you could book directly with us through our hosting website
- Airbnb takes a cut from both guests and hosts
- And now… there’s “Airbnb Services”

A host’s review of Airbnb Services
Recently, Airbnb rolled out a new feature called Airbnb Services. This new service allows guests to book add-ons like private chefs, massages, childcare, photography sessions, and more.
On the surface, Airbnb Services actually sounds like a pretty cool idea that could add value to guests’ overall experiences, especially for group activities like family reunions, bachelorette parties, and more.
The bad news
- Add-on services can be booked in a host’s property without host approval or notification
- Hosts don’t earn a commission on booked services
- Hosts can’t vet providers ourselves — talk about a red flag 🚩
I’d much rather offer guests my own recommendations for photographers, massage therapists, etc. that I’ve experienced for myself!
The good news
Airbnb Services isn’t available in Sioux Falls yet, but we’re keeping a close eye on it. We don’t believe it’s the best fit for our community or our guests.
